Here are some of the best things to do this weekend in San Diego from Friday, July 11 to Sunday, July 13.
Top Gun: Maverick” concert: Feel the need for speed at The Rady Shell this summer at a special “Top Gun: Maverick” concert. Fans of Maverick, Goose, Rooster and other “Top Gun: Maverick” characters can see the film with a live production of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. They will perform the scores and songs from the film that were originally composed by musicians such as Lady Gaga, Harold Faltermeyer, Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe. 7:30 p.m. Friday. Night at the museum: The San Diego Natural History Museum is staying open late on Fridays this summer. Guests can access all exhibitions, take part in trivia games and get tacos in the atrium and explore the rooftop with food, wine, beer and nonalcoholic options. “Noises Off”: Tony-winner Jefferson Mays stars in the Old Globe’s production of Michael Frayn play-within-a-play farce about a problem-plagued theater production. Friday summer concerts in the park: Carlsbad’s summer TGIF Concerts in the Parks series continues from 6 to 8 p.m. July 11 with The Reflexx band’s ’80s pop and new wave music and July 18 with The Cold Fact (soulful R&B) at Stagecoach Community Park. Gates open at 4 p.m. Parking for Stagecoach concerts is at La Costa Canyon High School. The lineup at Calavera Hills Community Park is Kimba Light (Cumbia) on July 25; Shakedown String Band (Americana/jam band) on Aug. 1; and The Honeydrops (doo-wop, rockabilly from 40s-60s) on Aug. 8. The last two concerts are at Alga Norte Community Park: Wayward Sons (power chord rock nostalgia) on Aug. 15 and Euphoria Brass Band (modern New Orleans-style jazz) on Aug. 22. Marine concert: The 35-piece Marine Band San Diego is performing in Little Italy as a free summer concert. Outdoor summer concerts at Liberty Station: Summer Arts Fest features Whitney Shay with live music and dancing, produced by Concert for Your Cause and emceed by Apt 4 Music. Soulja Boy and Bow Wow: SeaWorld San Diego’s Summer Concert series runs Saturday nights through Aug. 23 featuring R&B, hip-hop and rap hits from the ’90s and early 2000s. Musical performances include July 12 featuring Soulja Boy and Bow Wow. Before and after the concerts, there is Summer Spectacular entertainment, including educational animal presentations and exhibits, summer parade, stunt shows, fireworks and Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience. Over the Line Tournament: Over two weekends in July, Fiesta Island is the home to the annual World Championship Over-the-Line Tournament. The sporting event that started in San Diego is a game that is described by event organizers as beach softball. Two teams of three players battle to hit a ball over a line that is 55 feet from the batter. It is played without bases, and the team that scores the most runs wins. Out Loud San Diego Drag Show: Out loud San Diego wraps its two-day event with a fabulous evening of Drag Race performances featuring “Rupaul’s Drag Race” queens.
