I live where you could get beer and wine just about anywhere, but hard liquor requires a trip to either a government store (NC, VA) or a real liquor store (MD, DC). In Wisconsin, you can buy hard liquor at Walmart or the grocery, but you can't even buy a beer after 9PM. The info on South Carolina is wrong, I believe. Many of the larger stores actually have separate stores within the stores for hard liquor (with shorter statutory hours) and the wine and beer department. (1) Funniest Maryland gas stations don't sell alcohol? Not true. They just need to have a license and they're per-location not per chain like in other places. And I think there's a limit on how many licenses a single business can own, so later chains would need to set up LLCs or similar to hold only a few stations each. There was an independent gas station on my commute to former place of work that sold alcohol (on MD 193 / Enterprise Road just south of where it goes under US 50) ... but it's not particularly common. There are also some grocery stores that sell alcohol, but it falls under those same rules, so it's usually just independent places like Nick's or Rodman's. (2) Funniest Alcohol is so passé. It's all about GLP-1 and THC stacking these days. (0) Funniest 34 minutes ago I'm all for the sale of euphoric things like alcohol and pot. However, gas stations are the last place I would want them sold. (4) Funniest 33 minutes ago In California it's 2am not 2pm. Ragin' Asian (0) Funniest 33 minutes ago I don't really drink beer except occasionally at Sunday brunch. Growing up in New York, living in places with strict blue laws seemed unnecessarily puritan. Whenever I went back to New York and was topping up the tank at a gas station in the middle of the night, I'd buy a six pack just because I could. Montgomery County has tighter rules than the rest of the state. Total Wine has one location in MD because the law won't license chain stores (but apparently chain groceries selling beer/wine is OK). Back when I was in college there and you could drink beer/wine under 21, we'd often go get one-day liquor licenses (pretty impressive looking things, looks just like the reguar certificates) for special events on campus when we sold beer (they looked hte other way if you just gave it away). davethepirate (1) Funniest 34 minutes ago BigChad: In California it's 2am not 2pm. And now I don't trust anything else they are reporting. (0) Funniest 40 minutes ago BigChad: In California it's 2am not 2pm. In California you can buy beer, wine, and liquor in any grocery store. I've never seen any signage indicating that you can only buy there before 2:00AM, but then again I don't frequent grocery stores after 2:00 AM. True, it's just beer, wine, cider, malt liquor, and alcopop type stuff at most of them. Nick's of Calvert might be licensed differently, however, as they have hard liquor, too: https://www.nicksofcalvert.com/services/specials/ I want to say the original Nick's in Clinton had it, too, but it's since become a regular liquor store, not the butcher shop / italian grocery / liquor store of original. I also can't remember if the gas station on 193 had hard liquor (haven't been there since before the pandemic). I'm pretty sure they had 40s of malt liquor back when I used to go there, but might not have had harder stuff. /has gotten the one day license before //it's a PITA now as you have to have a letter signed by the property owner ///and the bank whose parking lot we used for our festival gave us the run around for a month or two until I finally managed to talk to the regional manage kittyhas1000legs (0) Funniest less than a minute ago Since when did CT start allowing beer at gas stations?
